Maarten van der Weijden, Men鈥檚 10km Marathon Gold [Swimming]

Maarten van der Weijden of the Netherlands won the gold medal in the last event of Swimming: The Men’s 10km Swimming Marathon. He clocked 1:51:51.6 to beat David Davies of Britain (1:51:53.1) and Thomas Lurz of Germany (1:51:53.6).

Larisa Ilchenko of Russia used 1 hour 59 minutes and 27.7 seconds to bag the Women’s 10km Marathon Swimming gold. Keri-Anne Payne and Cassandra Patten, both from Britain, took silver and brozne respectively.

Men鈥檚 4 x 100m Medley Relay Gold Goes To US [Swimming]

Jason Lezak, Brendan Hansen, Aaron Piersol and Michael Phelps of the United States defended their Men’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay title on the ninth day of the Beijing Olympics with a timing of 3:29:34. Australian team took silver with 3:30.04, the team from Japan had bronze with 3:31.18.

This win marks the eighth Beijing Olympic gold medal for Michael Phelps.

Australia Team Defended Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay Title [Swimming]

Emily Seebohm, Leisel Jones, Jessicah Schipper and Lisbeth Trickett of Australia won the Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay, with 3:52.69, a new world record. Natalie Coughlin, Rebecca Soni, Christine Magnuson and Dara Torres of the United States finished second with 3:53.30. The Chinese team had third.

Britta Steffen of Germany clocked 24.06 seconds, a new Olympic record, to bag the Women’s 50m Freestyle gold medal at the Beijing Olympics on 17th August 2008. Dara Torres of United States took silver, Cate Campbell of Australia had bronze.
