Air pollution has bugged China for the last ten years but China vows there’ll be “fresh air” for Olympics athletes during next year Summer Olympics in Beijing. Mobile air quality testing stations will be set up during the Games so that coaches and athletes are able to know the air quality level in real time. Construction is not allowed during the Olympic period as an effort to guarantee “fresh air”.

“In the Olympic villages and other sites we will set up mobile air quality testing stations and the information at these stations will be open to all,” vice-mayor, Ji Lin, said.

No good air, no good results.

Wi-Fi For Beijing Olympics 2008

Technology, Business, News May 31st, 2007

Chinacomm, a Chinese carrier, is building a 275-square-kilometer wireless Internet network in the Olympics city, Beijing. 90% 0f the city’s major streets will be covered by Wi-Fi and WiMAX technologies. And China own TD-SCDMA technology is used in favour of the popular 3G.

China also plans to roll out in 10 major cities third-generation cellular networks built on China鈥檚 homegrown TD-SCDMA standard. TD-SCDMA data transmission speeds, however, are substantially below those of rival 3G standards W-CDMA and CDMA2000 and not sufficient to support multimedia applications such as high-quality real-time video.

It will be nice to have a hotspot (everywhere) in Beijing, even in the toilet.

Lenovo will be providing the necessary computer equipment - servers, laptops and desktops to make the Games a success and also, for its brand-building.

Xie Long, director of Olympic sponsorship for Lenovo’s Olympic Business Department, explained that the list of computing equipment for the Beijing Olympics was finalized almost three years ago, when “Vista was not even born”.

Lenovo certainly has made the right step to use the Olympics as a platform to the world.

Tibet Protest On Mount Everest To Free Tibet From China

News May 4th, 2007

Four Tibetan activists are detained after their protest at Mount Everest base camp to show the world that Tibet is not a part of China even when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has given the green light to let China take the Olympics torch over Mount Everest and through Tibet.

Can “One World, One Dream, Free Tibet 2008″ be achieved? I doubt so.
