The three-and-a-half hour Beijing 2008 Olympics opening ceremony will include spectacular fireworks display, Chinese opera and a still-secret Olympic flame-lighting segment (only 10 people know now). Beijing is not all out to make this Olympic commencing event the best and the biggest opening ceremony but rather to celebrate 5000 years of rich Chinese history with the Olympics altogether.

China plans to use the August 8-24 Olympics as its coming out party and the opening ceremony is expected to be a stunning launchpad masterminded by Zhang Yimou (寮犺壓璋), China’s renowned filmmaker.

The three-part programme to be broadcast around the globe and before some 90,000 spectators at the stadium would last about three and a half hours and conclude with the lighting of the Olympic flame, the report quoted Zhang as saying.

We are all looking forward.

The first hour of the cerimony was real impressive and beautiful, but wvwntually the cerimony turned into a rather heavy and tiresome affair.

I think such megalomanic events as the Olympic games do not have any great entertainment value, at least not for me.
