First Time In Olympic History, Qinghai Jade In Olympic Medals

Gold medal will see the lighter finer jade set in its back while the silver has the white-greenish jade, the bronze, the greenish jade.
For the first time in Olympic history, the gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals (閲戦暥鐜) will have bands of jade set on their backs. Qinghai province in China has donated massive amounts of jade to the Organizing Committee of the Beijing Olympic Games (BOCOG) in order to craft out these fine masterpieces. Jade is a manifestation of virtue and honour in Chinese culture and thus, these jade Olympic medals combine the essence of the Chinese culture and the remarkable Olympic spirit into one.
The medal designer, Hang Hai (鏉娴), had to design the jade Olympic medal in such a way that the fragile jade would not break or crack even if the medal was thrown from a height of 2 meters.
I remember my grandma has lots of jade pieces in her drawers. I suppose she wants a piece of jade Olympic medal to add to her collection.
