9,000 Tickets Sold!
News November 3rd, 2007
An official BOCOG press release puts a more cheerful spin on the Olympic ticket crash, happily titling their article “9,000 tickets sold after launch of second phase sale”
BEIJING, October 29) — At 9:00 a.m., on Tuesday, the second phase of the ticket sale for the Beijing Olympic Games was launched. As of 11 a.m., a total of 9,000 tickets had been sold through various channels, with the official ticketing website and the outlets of the Bank of China contributing to 98 percent of the sales.
The article never breaks that 98% down into website sales and standing-in-line-since-2am-at-Bank-of-China sales. They also suggest that a few people might have had to wait and try again later.
My boyfriend says that I should put those 9,000 tickets into perspective by mentioning that University of Michigan sells 107,000 tickets to their football game every weekend. But I would never want to accuse the Chinese media of spin!
