Beijing Olympics officials may slap fines on people who are caught spitting in the public of Beijing if the present situation does not improve. However, spitting is a natural reaction to Beijing’s dirty air, according to those living in the city. One government advisor, Zi Huayun, says:
Four key bad habits of Chinese: spitting, not waiting in line, widespread smoking and swearing in the Beijing dialect.
Can Beijing eradicate these “effective” habits in time for the Games? I hope so.
